TAP INTO THE SELLING POWER OF 'FREEMIUMS'

Freemiums are small gifts or printed pieces inserted into direct mail packages that increase the effort's value and appeal to the recipient. Some examples: a sample of the editorial content of the magazine; a useful chart or tool based on the magazine's theme; a small keepsake or collecter's item bearing a logo and a message. While freemiums add to the cost of the package, they can more than pay for themselves if they strengthen the offer, boost response and continue to promote the magazine long after the mailing arrives. Here's a custom freemium we created for Fast Company that accomplished all of the above:

 

FAST COMPANY POST-IT NOTE FREEMIUM PACKAGE

For this effort we created the "Fast Company Flag," a pad of post-it
notes that subscribers could use to flag articles they wanted to pass along
to their colleagues. The mailing was part of a very successful campaign
to position Fast Company as a new kind of business magazine packed
with immediately useful information and ideas. And the flag freemium
was an effective way to promote this message throughout companies,
thus encouraging others to subscribe to the magazine.
